gumi is betting its entire corporate treasury on XRP. The SBI-backed Japanese gaming and blockchain company has consolidated all $86 million of its digital assets into the single token, a move that marks one of Japan's most aggressive corporate commitments to cryptocurrency. Simultaneously, it launched SBI Crypto Fund LLC, an $18.3 million actively managed investment vehicle co-created with SBI Group.
The two initiatives work in tandem but pull in different directions. gumi's treasury strategy treats XRP as a permanent reserve asset, like gold for a traditional corporation. The fund, by contrast, takes an active approach, rotating capital between Bitcoin and other assets to chase market opportunities. One vehicle accumulates. The other trades.
Building infrastructure for institutional money
SBI and gumi are essentially building two complementary vehicles for the institutional crypto market. The treasury move signals confidence that XRP's role in cross-border payments and tokenization will expand as Ripple deepens partnerships with SBI. But positioning alone won't attract institutional capital. That's where the next layer arrives: a patent-pending digital asset accounting platform developed by Hinode Technologies, a joint venture between gumi's gC Labs subsidiary and TISI Inc.
The platform automates what currently drains accounting teams: reconciling staking rewards, gas fees, on-chain transactions, and other blockchain activity that traditional accounting software can't touch. It's being tested through SBI Crypto Fund first, then commercialized for listed companies and institutional investors. This matters because every Fortune 500 company holding crypto faces the same accounting nightmare. A tool that solves it becomes infrastructure.
gumi's move reflects a broader shift in how corporations approach digital assets. Rather than diversifying across multiple tokens like a retail investor, the company is consolidating into one asset while building the operational scaffolding that institutions actually need to operate in crypto. The treasury accumulation is the headline. The accounting platform is the moat.
