Ripple released xrpld 3.2.1 yesterday to plug a vulnerability that attackers were exploiting to exhaust node resources across the XRP Ledger network. The hotfix caps validator manifest handling, blocking a flood attack that forced operators to choose between keeping nodes alive or losing sync with the blockchain.

Node operators face a mandatory two-step upgrade. First they deploy the patch itself, then they trigger a configuration change to activate the new protections. Skipping either step leaves systems vulnerable. The attack vector worked by flooding nodes with malformed manifest objects, each one consuming memory and processing power until the entire machine choked. Large validators felt it first, but the problem would eventually cascade down to smaller operators running home setups.

This fix matters because XRP Ledger continues attracting real-world asset projects, and a degraded network would shake confidence in those infrastructure plans. A healthy validator set keeps the ledger decentralized and responsive. When nodes start crashing under attack pressure, the entire ecosystem loses redundancy.
