Ripple locked 700 million XRP into escrow on August 1, reversing its usual sequence. Normally the company re-escrows tokens after the monthly unlock. This time it locked them first, then released 1 billion XRP the same day, resulting in a net 300 million addition to circulating supply.

The move came through two transactions covering 200 million and 500 million XRP respectively. The monthly release itself happened in three chunks of 500 million, 300 million, and 200 million tokens, worth roughly $1.08 billion at the time. Market impact was minimal. XRP dipped briefly to $1.04 before bouncing back to $1.07 by August 3.

This escrow rhythm has become predictable. Since the system launched in December 2017, Ripple releases 1 billion XRP on the first of each month from a 55 billion token pool. Over 32 billion remains locked, with about 62.5 billion in circulation. The monthly cycle adds roughly 0.48% to supply, a manageable drip that hasn't spooked the market in months.

Sentiment around XRP turned cautious regardless. Traders are leaning bearish for August, with few expecting an upside breakout. The hesitation persists even as fundamentals improve. Investors are watching the proposed U.S. CLARITY Act for regulatory signals, and XRP-focused ETFs pulled in $15 million in weekly net inflows.
