Barcelona has revived interest in 20-year-old striker Eli Junior Kroupi from Bournemouth as a fallback move should their pursuit of Atlético Madrid's Julián Álvarez stall. The Catalan club remains focused on signing Álvarez, but Kroupi is emerging as a solid Plan B.
Kroupi, who joined Bournemouth from Lorient in February 2025 for £10 million, impressed with 13 goals in 35 appearances during his first full season in the Premier League. Despite initial inquiries from Barcelona, Bournemouth has firmly declined to sell the young forward at this stage.
Álvarez continues to be Barcelona’s primary target. The Argentine striker has an offer on the table, yet talks with Atlético Madrid have slowed as the summer transfer window progresses. At 20, Kroupi fits Barcelona’s strategy of building with youthful talent proven in difficult leagues, but his price would be significantly less demanding than Álvarez’s expected premium fee.
Bournemouth’s refusal to engage in early negotiations suggests a prolonged summer window battle. Should Barcelona fail with Álvarez, a more substantial offer for Kroupi may be required, enhancing Bournemouth's use in talks.
