Michael Saylor reignited speculation on August 2 after posting “Bitcoin Drive engaged,” hinting that Strategy Inc. might announce a new bitcoin purchase this Monday. This message came alongside the company’s usual bitcoin acquisition tracker, a tool Saylor uses to signal upcoming treasury updates ahead of weekly reports.
The tracker showed Strategy’s bitcoin holdings at 843,775 BTC, valued around $53.25 billion, with an average cost near $75,653 per coin. Despite the unrealized loss of about $10.58 billion, or 16.58%, the firm’s 113 purchase events highlight its ongoing accumulation over time.
Recent Treasury Moves Reveal Small Bitcoin Sales
Strategy’s live ledger, reflecting data available on August 2, lists 116 treasury events and total bitcoin acquisitions amounting to $63.69 billion at an average price of $75,476 per BTC. However, two bitcoin sales this month, totaling 3,588 BTC, reduced the holdings from 847,363 BTC to the current level.
These sales, split between transactions of 1,363 BTC and 2,225 BTC, were executed to cover preferred-stock distributions and bolster the company’s U.S. dollar reserves, which recently grew to approximately $3.75 billion. the week ending July 26 saw no new bitcoin purchases, reflecting a strategic pause while strengthening cash reserves.
Earlier, Saylor’s cryptic post “We’re gonna need another color” hinted at updates similar to those before Strategy disclosed a larger cash reserve on July 27. The timing adds weight to expectations that another treasury announcement is imminent this Monday.
