MAGNE.AI just closed another $2.64 million funding round, bringing total disclosed capital to $12.64 million. Backers include GAEA Ventures, Titans Ventures and Go2Mars Labs. The startup is building a stack where AI agents can run locally on hardware, verify identity on-chain, and pay each other without middlemen.

The fresh capital flows toward three things. First, the MAGNE AI BOX, a device that runs AI models locally instead of sending data to cloud servers. Second, integration with MAGNE L1 blockchain and MHash L2 network for handling agent transactions at scale. Third, MAGNE Agent Pay, a payment protocol designed so AI agents can transact with each other and applications over x402 standard.

Why Edge AI and Agent Payments Matter

Cloud AI services work fine for many tasks but come with baggage. Data leaves your device, latency spikes, costs climb, and you lose control. For autonomous agents executing financial transactions or handling sensitive information, centralized infrastructure becomes a liability. You need the agent to prove who it is, access what it should, and settle payments without going through a bank or exchange every time.

MAGNE's approach stacks three layers. Edge hardware handles inference and local processing. A blockchain layer (L1) records identity and ownership. A scaling layer (L2) batches high-frequency agent interactions and payments. Agent Pay sits on top as the payment protocol itself.

From Phone to Infrastructure

MAGNE started as a Web3-native AI smartphone but shifted focus. The smartphone angle was about giving users control over their data and AI. The infrastructure angle is about giving AI agents the same control, the ability to act independently while staying verifiable and secure. It's a bigger market if it works.

The timing tracks with broader crypto trends. Projects are stitching crypto's fragmented ecosystem together, and autonomous agents increasingly need native payment rails to operate across chains and applications.
