Unserious has acquired Creepz, the lizard-themed NFT collection that became one of the most recognizable brands of the 2021-22 cycle. The deal is backed by entrepreneur and collector Adam Weitsman, and the original Creepz founders are on board with the transition.
The headline detail is Psychrome's return. The artist and creative mind behind the entire Creepz lore is coming back to lead IP development, and his resume goes well beyond Web3. He has shown work in galleries around the world and racked up commercial partnerships with Nike, Salomon, Sneaker Con, Staple, Disney, Warner Bros., and Rovio. That kind of cross-industry footprint is rare in the NFT space, and it signals that Unserious is thinking about Creepz as a brand with real-world reach, not just a JPEG collection waiting out the bear market.
Unserious itself brings a mixed background to the table. The team has worked across consumer brands, entertainment, and enterprise tech, and on the crypto side they were involved in some of the largest token launches in the industry, including ApeCoin. Whether that combination translates into a meaningful revival for a collection that peaked four years ago is the open question.
The company also took a moment to officially deny that lizard people exist, that they have any evil agenda, or that a $CREEPZ world domination plan is in the works. Presumably that clears things up.
