World Chain goes live with streamed EIP-7928 block access lists on August 17, marking the first production layer-2 network to deploy the feature. The upgrade lets validators verify transactions in parallel instead of sequentially, pushing throughput to one gigagas per second while keeping hardware demands flat.
How parallel verification actually works
Most blockchains force validators through the same bottleneck: re-execute every transaction in order, one after another, before signing off on a block. World Chain flips that. Full block access lists record which parts of the blockchain state each transaction touches, reading and writing specific data. Once validators know those dependencies, independent transactions can get verified simultaneously across multiple CPU cores.
The network takes it further by streaming these access lists every 200 milliseconds through its flashblock architecture. Validators don't wait for the block to finish assembling. They start verifying immediately as data arrives, spreading the computational load across the entire block-building window instead of cramming it all at the end.
The scaling angle without the hardware arms race
Ethereum and other networks face a real problem: scaling requires either more transactions per block or faster blocks, both of which demand validators buy beefier machines. That pushes toward centralization. World Chain's approach dodges that trap entirely. By parallelizing verification on existing hardware, the network squeezes more throughput from the same CPU cores operators already run.
This lands differently than Ethereum's planned EIP-7928 rollout, expected in the future Glamsterdam upgrade. Ethereum will need a hard fork to implement the feature across the entire protocol. World Chain deployed it through a runtime upgrade, no fork required. That speed matters in a competitive landscape where new blockchains are launching constantly, each claiming better throughput or validator economics.
The implementation contributes to Ethereum's broader scaling roadmap while giving World Chain a concrete edge: more capacity now, using the infrastructure validators already have. Whether other layer-2s adopt similar approaches will depend on how much throughput gains actually materialize in production.
