SharpLink Gaming's price target was cut to $13 from $16 by TD Cowen after the investment firm revised down its outlook for Ethereum in 2026, yet the stock retains a Buy rating. This shift came following a weaker-than-expected Q2 performance in ether prices, prompting analysts Lance Vitanza and Jonathan Navarrete to lower their year-end 2026 forecast for ethereum from $3,650 to $2,371.
Looking further ahead, TD Cowen has trimmed the 2027 to 2029 ethereum price estimates, now anticipating $3,347 by 2027, $4,554 in 2028, and $5,969 in 2029. At the time of the update, ether was trading down 1.71% at $1,884.77. SharpLink shares, meanwhile, closed at $6.41 on July 30, marking a 4.4% increase on the day and implying potential upside of over 100% relative to the revised target.
Ethereum’s Regulatory Challenges Weigh on Outlook
TD Cowen highlighted sluggish progress on regulating tokenized financial assets as a headwind. The firm referenced delays in legislation such as the CLARITY Act and broader uncertainties about the future regulatory landscape for on-chain finance. These hurdles are influencing ethereum’s price trajectory, which remains closely tied to SharpLink’s valuation given the company's pivot to an ethereum treasury strategy.
Despite the lower price target, the long-term investment thesis remains positive. SharpLink recently completed a $75 million registered-direct offering and expanded its ethereum treasury with a purchase of 10,000 ETH on June 30. The company has also been actively buying back shares to boost shareholder value. TD Cowen projects SharpLink's ether holdings could grow to approximately 940,000 ETH by the end of 2026, with net asset value rising to $9.13 per share under the updated model.
The new $13 valuation assumes a combined ether treasury worth $2.228 billion plus $862 million from treasury operations, factoring in staking yields and balance sheet growth. SharpLink’s transformation away from sports betting technology to one of the largest publicly traded ethereum treasury firms emphasizes holding ETH and generating staking income over time. Investors closely monitor the company's ongoing financing efforts, ETH acquisitions, and staking results.
SharpLink’s recent purchase of ETH aligns with its recognition as an early supporter of Ethereum Institutional’s initial ecosystem fund, signaling its strategic commitment amid ethereum’s evolving landscape.
