Ripple has introduced Ripple Mint, a platform designed to streamline institutional operations involving its stablecoin RLUSD. The platform enables firms to mint, redeem, bridge, and manage RLUSD directly via a user interface or API integration, aiming to meet the demands of large financial institutions for automated workflows and real-time transaction transparency.
This move coincides with BNY Mellon’s involvement as the custodian of RLUSD’s cash and Treasury-backed reserves. BNY Mellon’s extensive network, controlling custody or administration for roughly $54 trillion in assets, positions it as a key partner in Ripple's strategy to embed RLUSD within institutional treasury and digital asset settlement systems.
Ripple Mint offers flexibility by supporting both UI and API access, allowing institutions to integrate RLUSD operations into existing treasury setups smoothly. The platform is immediately available to current RLUSD users, signaling swift adoption potential among Ripple’s institutional clientele.
The Growing Role of Tokenized Treasury Settlement
Despite the massive scale of traditional U.S. Treasury markets, exceeding $30 trillion, tokenized Treasury products remain small by comparison, with an estimated market size of $7.4 billion. The push for "always-on" availability in Treasury, credit, and collateral markets underlines the potential for RLUSD to function as cash-like liquidity within tokenized funds, rather than merely being an exchange-traded asset.
By bridging stablecoin operations with established institutional networks like BNY Mellon’s, Ripple Mint could accelerate the adoption of tokenized finance instruments at scale. This development also ties into broader trends, complementing innovations such as Samsung Wallet’s stablecoin payments, signaling growing mainstream integration of digital currencies.
