Orbs just rolled out OIP-9, its first formal community governance proposal. The layer 3 infrastructure project is asking token holders to approve creation of the Orbs DAO and build out the initial decentralized governance framework from scratch.
Here's what gets voted on. Staked ORBS holders can participate in Snapshot voting on selected protocol decisions, with execution handled through DAO-controlled multisig wallets. The initial responsibilities are concrete: oversight of Proof-of-Stake infrastructure, Guardian management, protocol upgrades and new network-level deployments. Orbs built the framework to expand gradually. As the community gains governance experience, the DAO's authority expands into treasury management, protocol revenue and tokenomics in future proposals.
The timing matters. If OIP-9 passes, it creates the governance foundation for Orbs' upcoming Season 1 tokenomics proposal while keeping an emergency mechanism that requires subsequent community approval. The network itself runs on decentralized Proof-of-Stake and extends layer 1 and layer 2 ecosystems by enabling more complex smart contract logic and advanced trading functions. Its infrastructure powers dLIMIT for on-chain limit orders, dTWAP for time-based orders, Liquidity Hub for optimized liquidity access, and Perpetual Hub for decentralized derivatives trading.
