Moonshot AI has opened access to its Kimi K3 model weights, making the largest open-weight AI model on the planet available for free download. The Kimi K3 has a staggering 2.8 trillion parameters, a scale unmatched by any other public AI system to date.
This massive parameter count allows K3 to process complex tasks with a context window of up to 1 million tokens, enabling the analysis of entire documents or extensive codebases in a single query. The model's capabilities rival those of leading AI systems such as OpenAI's Fable 5 and outperform several GPT-5 variants across standard benchmarks.
Since launching K3, Moonshot AI has seen its daily revenue increase sixfold, a surge that temporarily forced the company to pause new subscriptions. This surge reflects the high demand for powerful, open-access AI models amid rising global competition, especially from Chinese tech firms developing cost-efficient alternatives.
The move comes amid scrutiny from US officials who allege Moonshot trained K3 on banned Nvidia hardware. Despite these challenges, the company is preparing for a Hong Kong stock market debut, targeting a valuation of $50 billion while seeking fresh investment.
