Galaxy Digital drops earnings tomorrow morning, and the numbers will tell whether Novogratz's $17 billion crypto shop can actually turn infrastructure into real profit. The firm acquired a sprawling 500-acre data center campus in McGregor, Texas just last month, signaling serious conviction that GPU compute and AI workloads will drive returns alongside traditional crypto trading.
The webcast kicks off at 8:30 a.m. ET on August 5. Stock's been hovering around $21.78 on Nasdaq, so investors are clearly waiting to see if the data center strategy justifies the capital being thrown at it.
Building the compute backbone
Galaxy already operates 1.6 GW of approved data center capacity as of March. Their Helios campus already hosts CoreWeave, one of the bigger players in the GPU cloud space riding the AI boom. Now with the Texas acquisition, the company's essentially doubling down on the bet that companies building AI will need serious compute infrastructure, and crypto natives have an edge building it faster than traditional players.
The infrastructure segment is one of three divisions keeping the lights on. Trading handles institutional OTC and derivatives for hedge funds and family offices, asset management runs investment vehicles, and now data centers are supposed to be the growth engine.
The financial reality check
Last year didn't look pretty. Galaxy posted a net loss of $482 million in Q4 2025, though adjusted gross profit for the full year hit $426 million. By Q1 2026, the picture was clearer. The company reported $17 billion in total assets, an average loan book of $1.768 billion, and 1,532 trading counterparties spanning hedge funds, family offices, and institutional players using Galaxy for lending and derivatives.
Those numbers matter because they show the core business is humming. The question hanging over tomorrow's call is whether the data center bet will eventually generate the kind of returns that justify another multi-billion dollar expansion. Crypto infrastructure has been a graveyard for capital before. Galaxy's betting this time is different.
