SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce dropped word that the Senate plans to vote on the Crypto Clarity Act within a week. The announcement, posted on social media, caught market attention because the bill already cleared the House and the Senate Banking Committee. What's left is the full Senate floor, where it needs 60 votes to advance.

The bill itself stakes out who regulates what in crypto. The SEC and the CFTC have been tangled in turf wars for years. This law would draw clearer lines between them, though it would also pile substantial new rulemaking duties onto the SEC. Crypto interests have spent heavily on 2026 races to ensure friendlier legislative terrain for rules like these.

The sticking points remain

Peirce's optimism masks real obstacles. Ethics provisions and stablecoin yield rules are still unresolved, and those gaps have stalled momentum before. The bill also has to reconcile with whatever the House passes once the Senate moves it forward. That's not automatic.

Market skepticism is hard to miss. Prediction markets had the bill signed into law by 2026 priced at 26% just a day before Peirce's statement. Now it's at 16.5%. Traders aren't buying the week-long timeline at face value.

Watch for official word from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on scheduling. Watch for the White House, too. Trump's support would matter enormously for final passage. Any slip in the schedule, any new controversy over the unresolved issues, shifts the odds again.
