Bitcoin opened the week around $62,000. Matrixport's latest reading shows something shifting in the options pit, where sellers have been relentless for weeks.
The analytics firm flagged that downside risk perception is cooling. Extreme fear trades, the kind that hedge against catastrophic drops, are thinning out across the market.
That matters because it suggests the market has likely bottomed its panic. When options traders stop bracing for disaster, price usually stops falling.
Holding $62,000 becomes the test. Break below it and you're back in the selling zone. Stay above and Bitcoin could build a higher floor, the kind that precedes rallies.
Position sizes remain tight. Most traders are holding small stakes, which actually works in Bitcoin's favor right now, Matrixport noted. Less ammunition for the next wave down means less downside pressure ahead.
This week's options flow will be decisive. If negative skew narrows, meaning traders stop overpricing downside protection, that's usually a green light for upside momentum to return. When the hedges get cheaper, money typically shifts to bullish bets.
Geopolitical friction between the US and Iran continues to weigh on Bitcoin. So do rising Treasury yields, which make risk assets less attractive to traditional investors. These macro headwinds haven't disappeared, just loosened their grip temporarily.
