The coding edge isn't marginal. That's where Claude keeps winning. Both Google and OpenAI are reportedly accelerating development efforts aimed directly at that segment.

OpenAI's counter: go faster, cost less

OpenAI isn't trying to out-code Anthropic right now. Instead, GPT-5.6 variants are being positioned around speed and cost efficiency, with claims of completing certain tasks in roughly half the time of some competing models.
