Services from YGG Play went dark on Friday as Yield Guild Games winds down its game publishing arm. Gabby Dizon, co-founder of Yield Guild, confirmed the shutdown on X, noting that while YGG Play ceases, the core Yield Guild operations carry on with new plans to be revealed shortly.
The YGG Play platform, including its website, Launchpad, and questing features, will retire by August 1. This affects games like LOL Land and Waifu Sweeper, which will go offline after July 31. Meanwhile, web3 games GIGACHADBAT and Ragnarok Breaker continue under the independent management of Delabs Games and Planetarium Labs.
Pivoting Toward AI Data
YGG revealed it had around $20.6 million in treasury assets at the end of Q1, with stablecoins, Treasury bills, and large-cap tokens comprising a significant portion. Shutting the unprofitable publishing unit extends YGG's financial runway to an estimated four years. The guild is now focusing on building a B2B pipeline centered on gaming datasets to serve AI development labs. Dizon describes this as a shift from traditional yield farming to generating behavioral data from its player base, effectively entering the AI data economy.
The YGG token hovered near $0.0178 on Friday, showing modest gains over 24 hours but remaining nearly 99.8% below its November 2021 peak valuations. This market cap drop highlights how much the project has changed since its early days.
Despite the shutdown, Yield Guild emphasizes its main guild operations remain intact. Social channels, questing hubs, and third-party marketing support tied to YGG Play will discontinue, but the core community and guild mission persist. This marks a deliberate repositioning, betting on data-driven AI ventures rather than game asset-based yield strategies.
