XRPL Commons announced a new grants initiative designed to turbocharge innovation within the XRP Ledger (XRPL) ecosystem. The nonprofit’s program consists of three distinct tracks, each targeting different stages and types of builders, from open-source developers to established blockchain projects. This move signals a shift from a centralized funding approach to a model where multiple independent organizations jointly support XRPL development.

Since 2017, over $550 million has been funneled into the XRP Ledger ecosystem. XRPL Commons stands out as a key player, focusing on developer education, incubation, financial support, and community growth. Their previous efforts included running The Aquarium incubator and the Glow initiative, which incentivizes open-source contributions.

The new grants program unites these efforts under one structured umbrella. The first track, Glow, rewards completed open-source projects rather than just ideas. It encompasses developer tools, protocol improvements, node management, and even enhancements in post-quantum cryptography. Launched in October 2025, Glow has already funded 11 projects and will continue accepting applications quarterly through the end of 2026.

The second track is built for early-stage teams building on XRPL, combining a 90-day Make Waves competition that prizes projects with the most user growth and on-chain activity. It also includes the Aquarium incubator, now expanded online, and Early Stage Grants that provide milestone-based funding for teams with products on testnet or mainnet. The emphasis is on measurable adoption combined with technical and marketing support.

The third track supports established blockchain applications integrating XRPL infrastructure. A notable example is LOBSTR, one of the largest wallets in the Stellar ecosystem, which recently partnered with XRPL Commons to give over 1.5 million users direct access to the XRP Ledger.

XRPL Commons highlights the network’s enterprise-ready features: a native decentralized exchange free from MEV and front-running, permissioned DEX capabilities for regulated markets, built-in compliance tools, escrow services, payment channels, and cross-currency settlement. Transactions finalize in 3 to 5 seconds with fees amounting to fractions of a cent, making XRPL an attractive base for financial applications.

This launch comes amid accelerating XRPL adoption, following an $800 million rise in distributed real-world assets on the ledger in 2026. XRPL Commons consolidates its role as a catalyst for the network’s next growth phase.

Market reaction has been subdued with XRP prices showing little movement after the announcement.
