"The ledger is showing signs of life even when the price isn't," one on-chain analyst noted after daily payments on the XRP Ledger hit roughly 508,000 transactions on July 22, crossing the 500,000 threshold for the first time in several days. The jump was abrupt and unannounced, with no obvious catalyst tying it to a single event or announcement. That's what made traders pay attention.

Over the past month, daily payment volumes on the XRP Ledger had been oscillating between 400,000 and 700,000, so the 508,000 figure isn't a record in isolation. What matters is the pattern: each time payment counts have climbed back above that half-million mark in prior cycles, it has tended to precede spikes in price volatility. The reasoning is straightforward enough. Rising on-chain payments reflect genuine network usage, not just speculators flipping positions on an exchange. When real-world transaction demand picks up, it adds a layer of structural support that pure speculative flow doesn't provide.

On the price side, XRP is still stuck below meaningful long-term resistance and has been grinding through a tightening triangular consolidation on the daily chart since a prolonged decline earlier this year bottomed out near $1.05. The slow recovery from that level produced a series of higher lows, drawing an ascending support line that is now converging with horizontal resistance in the $1.15 to $1.20 range. Bulls haven't cleared that zone yet. Above it sits an even heavier obstacle: the 100-day and 200-day exponential moving averages, clustered between $1.23 and $1.44, a resistance band wide enough to absorb several breakout attempts before price can run freely.

XRP has recently recaptured its short-term moving averages, which is a modest positive, but the longer-dated EMAs overhead are still well out of reach. The current setup means the network activity data and the chart structure are pulling in the same direction for bulls, even if neither has delivered a decisive move. Whether the payment surge sustains above 500,000 in the coming sessions will tell a lot about whether this is genuine demand building or just a one-day anomaly.
