The XRP Ledger is gearing up for a major update with the upcoming release of xrpld 3.3.0, bringing five new amendments aimed at boosting privacy, streamlining transactions, and enhancing institutional adoption. These changes are designed to support more complex operations like global transfers, trading, and collateralized settlements.
Major Features Targeting Institutional Needs
The proposed amendments include confidential Multi-Purpose Token (MPT) transactions that will use cryptographic proofs to keep token balances and transfer amounts private. Another important shift is the introduction of batch transactions, enabling atomic settlement across several accounts, which means payments and deliveries can happen simultaneously to reduce risk.
Also on the table are delegated permissions, allowing third parties to manage accounts without giving full control, sponsored transaction costs to facilitate onboarding by covering fees, and flexible token properties for better asset management.
These upgrades will not activate immediately after the new software release. Each amendment must pass a validator approval process requiring at least 80% support from trusted validators for two weeks. The previous upgrade, fixCleanup3_2_0, activated on July 29, secured 30 out of 35 validator votes, or 85.71%, showing strong network governance.
Jazzi Cooper, RippleX’s head of product, highlighted that the XRPL already supports tokenized assets at scale but these enhancements push the network closer to real-world use cases such as global asset transfers and settlement. The amendments pave the way for smoother institutional workflows and better privacy altogether.
