World Foundation has raised $52.5 million in a private sale of its native WLD token, with Pantera Capital leading the round. This funding will support the expansion of the World ID platform, a privacy-focused digital identity system that verifies users without exposing their personal data.
Other participants in the round include Bain Capital Crypto, Selini Capital, Susquehanna Crypto, and Nasdaq-listed Eightco Holdings, which already holds a substantial share of WLD tokens. According to World Foundation, all investors agreed to a 12-month lock-up period following the sale.
Accelerating Human Identity Verification Amid AI Growth
The need for World ID infrastructure is intensifying as artificial intelligence technologies continue to advance, increasing demand for secure human authentication. Cosmo Jiang, general partner at Pantera Capital, emphasized that proof-of-human technology is more critical than ever, citing growing enterprise interest. He highlighted the platform's potential to address challenges such as deepfakes, synthetic identities, and automated accounts.
The latest version, World ID 4.0, offers enterprise-grade software enabling developers to issue secure digital credentials leveraging zero-knowledge proof technology. Major companies like Zoom, DocuSign, Okta, Vercel, and Tinder have already integrated World ID into their systems.
Before this fundraising, World Foundation had raised about $200 million through previous WLD token sales, while its parent company, Tools for Humanity, secured around $240 million via venture capital. The project has attracted over 39 million sign-ups, with more than 18 million World IDs verified through its Orb devices.
