World Foundation’s recent $52.5 million capital raise sparked a sharp 9% decline in the WLD token price immediately after the announcement. The non-profit responsible for the World network sold a large batch of tokens to strategic investors at a significant markdown, drawing market attention and investor caution.
Data reveals that 217.4 million WLD tokens changed hands for around $0.2415 each. This price sits roughly 30% below the token’s price at press time and about 40% less than WLD’s closing price before the news broke. Despite initial concerns about the steep discount, World Foundation emphasized that the sale mirrored market valuations and confirmed all purchased tokens would remain locked for one year, ruling out any direct exchange sales.
Strategic Context and Market Reaction
Among the buyers were big names like Pantera Capital and Bain Capital Crypto, signaling strong institutional backing with a focus on the project’s potential amid rising AI developments. Franklin Bi, General Partner at Paradigm, highlighted the growing scarcity of proof-of-human identity online as AI bots become increasingly sophisticated.
Interestingly, this capital injection coincided with Worldcoin’s announcement of a 43% reduction in daily token emissions starting July 24 a move intended to tighten token inflation and reduce market supply. Some investors, including Austin Barack of Relayer Capital, believe this combination could ease selling pressure and stabilize the token around support levels, providing a more balanced outlook for WLD.
Yet, the token’s price still plunged during a broader market correction last Friday, settling above a key support level near $0.30. Should this level fail, traders may watch for further declines potentially reaching the 2026 low near $0.25.
On-chain metrics from Santiment reveal that although selling pressure on exchanges initially surged, tripling from 18 million to nearly 60 million WLD tokens within two months, recent weeks have shown a modest 30% drop, with sell-side supply holding steady around 40 million tokens.
The interplay between reduced emissions, fresh capital, and persistent selling pressure creates a complex environment. While the recent fundraising might ultimately support WLD’s price by limiting token release, high exchange supply continues to drag on market sentiment and price resilience.
