VC Spectra (SPCT) closed its private sale at $2.4 million, pulling in crypto whales who were already growing restless with Bitcoin and Ethereum's sluggish price action. The project is advertising 37.5% returns, and that number is doing most of the recruiting.
Bitcoin stuck below $31,100, Ethereum whales cashing out
Bitcoin sat at $29,300 at the time of writing, up just 0.34% in 24 hours. Weekly losses reached 2.5%, monthly losses 3.6%. The $31,100 level has been a ceiling the market keeps bumping against without breaking through. Analysts still pencil in a move toward $40,000 before year-end, banking on the halving cycle, but the path there looks messy. BTC briefly hit $31,500 in mid-July, then slid back to $29,000. Elon Musk rebranding Twitter to X and openly preferring Dogecoin for payments on the platform didn't help sentiment either, nudging some retail money toward DOGE and away from Bitcoin.
Ethereum's own whale drama ran through June. One large holder pulled 50,100 ETH, worth around $91.2 million, out of Binance. The same wallet then withdrew another 8,500 ETH on June 8 while staking 34,560 ETH separately. Those movements contributed to a notable market dip between June 28 and July 2. ETH was trading at $1,860, down 2.12% on the week, with analysts targeting a year-end level near $1,905.
With both flagship assets in choppy water, a portion of whale capital started looking elsewhere. VC Spectra landed in that gap. The $2.4 million private sale figure is the clearest sign yet that institutional-sized buyers are taking a position before any public listing.
