Wednesday turned brutal for DeFi security. Within a seven-hour window, two separate crypto bridge exploits wiped out a combined $31.6 million.
AFX, a decentralized perpetual exchange built on Arbitrum, took the bigger hit: $24.15 million gone in one attack.
Hours later, the Verus Ethereum bridge was targeted, accounting for the remaining portion of the day's losses.
Two different protocols, two different teams, same day. The speed of the back-to-back exploits suggests attackers may have been watching both targets simultaneously.
Cross-chain bridges remain among the most vulnerable infrastructure in crypto. In 2022, bridge hacks alone cost the industry over $2 billion, and Wednesday's events show that pattern hasn't faded.
