Stacks opened its PoX-5 public testnet on July 23, letting developers test self-custodial Bitcoin staking ahead of a mainnet hard fork penciled in for around July 29. The bootstrap phase caps staked BTC at 3,000 and targets a 3% APY paid directly in Bitcoin.
