Space Exploration Technologies Corp., the company backed by Elon Musk, saw its shares fall to a new all-time low below $110 on July 27. The stock briefly touched $108.78 before bouncing slightly to $109.79 at the time of reporting.

The downward trend has been steady since SpaceX reached its all-time high above $225. Over the last month, the stock has shed more than a third of its value, reflecting a cooling off period following the initial excitement after its public offering.

Mounting bearish pressure appears linked to the imminent August share unlocks. More than 911 million shares are set to become available for trading on August 3, which may trigger increased selling, especially from early investors looking to take profits.

SpaceX, despite its vast market cap of around $1.5 trillion, faces scrutiny over its lofty valuation compared to its expected $18.7 billion revenue in 2025. This discrepancy raises questions among some market participants even as others remain optimistic.

Analyst Forecasts and Market Sentiment

Currently, approximately 206 million of the 555 million outstanding shares are held short, underscoring significant selling pressure. Still, Wall Street analysts continue to hold a bullish outlook based on SpaceX’s long-term growth prospects.

Adam Jonas from Morgan Stanley recently reaffirmed a Buy rating with a price target of $300 for the stock within the next year, implying a potential surge of over 170%. Meanwhile, a TipRanks survey of 31 analysts averages a 12-month target around $235, suggesting the possibility of the stock doubling from current levels.

Investment firm Ark Invest, led by Cathie Wood, has emerged as a major buyer this July, investing nearly $115 million. Analysts attribute optimism in part to SpaceX’s increasing focus on artificial intelligence, a sector that continues to ignite investor enthusiasm.

SpaceX’s stock performance occurs amid broad market dynamics where technology and AI advancements heavily influence valuations, reminiscent of shifts seen in other sectors recently.
