South Korea's government teamed up with 12 major corporations to launch the AIDC Alliance, aiming to develop 18.4 gigawatts of AI data center capacity. This push targets turning the country into a global hub for AI computing power and exporting what they call "intelligence tokens," the raw outputs of AI processing.
The initiative, announced at Lotte Hotel Seoul, brings together tech giants like SK Telecom, Naver Cloud, Samsung SDS, and LG Electronics alongside key players in power and cooling industries. Backed by a state fund projected to reach 200 trillion won, South Korea wants to use its semiconductor expertise to expand into data center exports within three to five years.
Jeong Jae-heon, CEO of SK Telecom, will co-chair the alliance alongside government representatives. The group’s formation signals Seoul’s strategic move to compete globally in the high-demand AI infrastructure market, potentially reshaping the digital economy landscape.
