South Korea’s digital payment landscape is about to get a blockchain-powered boost. KSNET, a major payment processor with a footprint across 330,000 merchants, has teamed up with the Solana Foundation to integrate Solana Pay into its established network. This move could reshape how millions of transactions are handled monthly.

Blending traditional payments with blockchain

KSNET processes around 130 million transactions every month, handling close to $4 billion in payment volume. Instead of replacing its current systems, KSNET aims to layer blockchain payments on top of its existing infrastructure, making it easier for merchants to accept digital assets without disrupting their daily operations. Compliance is front and center KSNET is committed to embedding strong anti-money laundering controls and aligning with South Korea’s strict financial regulations.

CEO Park Hankook emphasized KSNET’s experience in payment processing as a foundation for introducing a secure and reliable digital asset payment system. They also plan to integrate digital asset settlements within the Korean Won network. This approach could minimize risks tied to exchange rate fluctuations and liquidity challenges, making blockchain payments more practical for everyday use.

AI-powered payments and new protocols

The partnership will explore the capabilities of x402, a new internet-specific payment protocol designed for AI-driven micropayments. This technology enables AI agents to autonomously execute small transactions for API-based services without needing credit cards or human intervention. With AI technologies rapidly expanding, machine-to-machine (M2M) payments like these are emerging as a promising blockchain use case.

Solana’s fast and efficient transaction processing makes it an ideal platform for handling these micro-payments. As blockchain applications evolve, integrating AI and digital payments could unlock new business models and service innovations.

This latest collaboration builds on KSNET’s recent moves into the crypto space, following its May 2025 partnership with Crypto.com. The momentum in South Korea’s digital payment sector shows a clear trend toward adopting blockchain solutions at scale.
