On July 27, Senator Dave McCormick urged immediate Senate action on the long-debated Clarity Act intended to regulate the crypto market.
Speaking with Fox Business, McCormick accused some Democrats of stalling legislation to avoid giving Republicans a legislative victory.
He called for the bill to be brought to the Senate floor for a vote so that every senator's position could be made public, emphasizing the need for clear rules that protect consumers while fostering innovation and jobs in the digital asset space.
The Clarity Act, which has been under discussion since last year, aims to formalize regulations around the crypto industry but has faced hurdles, including concerns from banking regulators about stablecoin ethics and yield.
A revised draft banning public officials and their families from engaging with or promoting cryptocurrencies was circulated last week to address prior opposition points.
Republicans are now seeking Democratic support to move the bill forward, although critics like Senator Elizabeth Warren contend the current version could benefit former President Donald Trump and criminals.
Some Democrats issued a statement last week arguing the bill does not adequately address all issues.
Meanwhile, major financial institutions such as Fidelity and Goldman Sachs, alongside crypto lobbyists, support the bill's latest iteration.
President Trump's family has significant crypto investments, including meme coins and DeFi projects like World Liberty Financial, raising concerns over conflicts of interest among some lawmakers.
Despite this, the White House consistently denies any wrongdoing, maintaining that the President's crypto business ties do not conflict with his public duties.
Trump's influence on financial policy remains a contentious topic in crypto circles.
