Samsung Electronics announced it will enable stablecoin transactions within its Galaxy Wallet app, a move revealed during the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event on July 22. This upgrade aims to transform the wallet from simply managing cash and savings accounts into a full platform for digital currency operations.
Stablecoins Enter Samsung's Payment Ecosystem
Details about the rollout timeline, supported stablecoins, and blockchain partners remain under wraps. However, Samsung demonstrated a working interface with USDC, hinting this USD-pegged stablecoin may be among the first currencies users can send, receive, and fund through the wallet.
Samsung plans to secure all wallet transactions with the solid Knox security system, which employs encryption methods designed to protect users' funds and data. This initiative positions Samsung as one of the first major smartphone manufacturers integrating native stablecoin capability to facilitate direct digital currency transfers from mobile devices.
This development builds on Samsung’s October 2025 collaboration with Coinbase, which allowed Galaxy owners in the US to purchase cryptocurrency via Samsung Wallet, initially reaching 75 million users. The partnership previously granted new users a three-month free Coinbase One membership, aiming to lower barriers to entry for digital asset adoption.
Market reaction was swift as Samsung Electronics shares fell 7.6% to ₩249,500 on Friday immediately following the presentation. It remains to be seen how this move will impact Samsung's position in mobile payments and the broader crypto space.
