Samsung SDS is stepping up its digital asset game by joining forces with Dunamu, the South Korean company behind the Upbit cryptocurrency exchange. The move aims to merge Samsung’s strengths in cloud, cybersecurity, and IT with Dunamu’s blockchain know-how.
During the earnings call on July 29, CEO Lee Jun-hee highlighted the company's plan to expand its stablecoin capabilities using this partnership. Samsung SDS isn’t new to the space, having worked on tokenized securities and stablecoin projects already. Lee said that prior projects with the Korea Securities Depository gave them a solid foundation, particularly around stablecoin issuance and settlement processes, validated with domestic financial institutions.
Building a Stronger Digital Asset Infrastructure
Lee emphasized that combining resources with Dunamu will create new business opportunities and help Samsung SDS play a leading role in South Korea’s growing digital asset infrastructure market. This aligns with their broader inorganic growth strategy, which includes investments in AI and robotics. in May, Samsung SDS joined Samsung Securities and Samsung Card to acquire a 4% stake in Dunamu, signaling a deeper commitment to the crypto sector.
The partnership comes as digital assets, including stablecoins, attract more regulatory interest and technological development in South Korea. Samsung SDS plans to use its cloud and cybersecurity expertise alongside Dunamu’s blockchain skills to offer a solid, secure platform for stablecoin-related services and beyond.
