Samsung revealed at its Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22 that its Wallet app will soon support stablecoins. Lee Dinham, a Samsung product manager, announced the move as the company's first direct commitment to incorporating stablecoins into its ecosystem. However, Samsung did not provide a launch timeline, specify which stablecoins will be supported, or identify target markets during the presentation.

During the event, an on-stage demo showed the interface featuring Circle's USDC stablecoin, but neither Samsung nor Circle confirmed a formal partnership. Samsung also has not published an official statement or responded to media inquiries regarding the details of this integration.

From Skepticism to Adoption

This announcement comes after a notable change in Samsung's stance on stablecoins. In June, Samsung was listed as one of over 140 partners of the Open USD stablecoin consortium led by Bridge co-founder Zach Abrams, only for the company to subsequently deny any official involvement. Samsung stated no formal discussions had taken place at that time.

Samsung has been experimenting with cryptocurrency technology since 2019, when it introduced a hardware-backed blockchain wallet with the Galaxy S10. More recently, in October 2025, the company integrated Coinbase One into its Wallet app, making it available to over 75 million Galaxy users in the US.

The stablecoin support announcement coincided with the launch of the Galaxy Card, Samsung's first credit card issued in partnership with Barclays on the Visa network. Unlike Samsung's upcoming stablecoin integration, neither Apple Pay nor Google Wallet currently offer native stablecoin support, relying instead on third-party partners for crypto-related services.

Samsung's home country, South Korea, faces regulatory hurdles around stablecoins, with legislation stalled over who should be authorized to issue won-pegged stablecoins. The central bank favors bank-led consortiums, while the Financial Services Commission considers these restrictions excessive. The government aims to reintroduce the bill by September, but Samsung has yet to comment on stablecoins pegged to the won in its recent declaration.

The global stablecoin market is substantial, with total supply around $307.6 billion according to DefiLlama. In June alone, USDC recorded a massive $1.21 trillion in adjusted transaction volume, highlighting the potential scale of Samsung's move to integrate these assets directly into hundreds of millions of smartphones worldwide.
