Investors following Robinhood's blockchain network faced a scare when CEO Vlad Tenev's X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked to promote a counterfeit memecoin called Vladhood ($VLAD). The fraudulent post claimed the token would soon be available on the Robinhood app and included a blockchain wallet address to lure users, but was swiftly deleted after discovery.
Fake Token Promotion Hits Amid Explosive Blockchain Growth
The breach occurred at a time when Robinhood’s newly launched blockchain has rapidly drawn over $700 million in assets, including stablecoins, tokenized stocks, and a surge of memecoins. According to data from Entropy Advisors reflected on Dune Analytics, the network has reached more than 300,000 daily active addresses and processed about 10 million transactions in a single day, highlighting intense speculative activity.
Such a dynamic environment has spurred multiple meme token projects hoping to ride the wave. The hack illustrates the risks associated with this fast-growing ecosystem, as malicious actors exploit the hype to push fraudulent tokens. Robinhood confirmed the incident through their official communications, stating they are working with X to restore control of the CEO's account and have already removed the misleading post.
