Ripple has made a strategic investment in Notabene, a compliance-focused on-chain transaction services provider, the company confirmed in an official statement on July 23. The size of the deal was not disclosed.
The practical outcome is straightforward: Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD will be integrated into Notabene Flow, the platform's institutional payment product, while the two companies will also work to combine Ripple Payments infrastructure with Notabene's transaction verification and authorization tools. The goal is to let financial institutions move stablecoins across borders in a way that satisfies regulators rather than just technically works.
What Notabene actually brings to the table
Notabene already connects more than 2,300 financial institutions across over 100 jurisdictions and processes north of $2 trillion in annual network transaction volume. That is not a startup footprint. Plugging RLUSD into that network gives Ripple instant access to a compliance layer that would have taken years to build independently.
Jack McDonald, Ripple's Senior Vice President of Stablecoins, put it plainly: institutional adoption of stablecoins depends on more than fast rails. Trusted identity, compliance, and transaction authorization all have to be in place before money actually moves, and Notabene's network addresses exactly that bottleneck.
As Notabene CEO Pelle Braendgaard noted, the conversation among financial institutions has already shifted. Nobody is debating whether to use stablecoins anymore. The live question is how to do it without running into regulatory trouble, and the combination of Ripple's global payment reach with Notabene's trust infrastructure is designed to answer that. As stablecoin payment infrastructure matures, broader market access for institutions is likely to follow, much like the extended trading windows now being pursued by traditional venues such as the London Stock Exchange with its near-round-the-clock trading plans for 2027.
The two firms also plan joint efforts to expand RLUSD use cases beyond current deployments, though no specific roadmap was shared at this stage.
