Ripple unlocked 1 billion XRP tokens in August according to its monthly escrow schedule, with the total value around $1.08 billion. Whale Alert data from August 2 revealed the release split into three transactions: 500 million XRP worth $532.86 million, 300 million XRP at $319.65 million, and 200 million XRP valued at $213.11 million.

This release follows a system Ripple introduced in December 2017 to increase supply transparency. Every month on the first day, up to 1 billion XRP is freed from escrow, but Ripple usually locks back most of these tokens. So far this year, the company has re-escrowed roughly 700 million XRP monthly, leaving about 300 million tokens available for operations, liquidity, partnerships, and network growth.

After this latest release, XRP’s circulating supply is near 62.5 billion, while over 32 billion XRP remains locked away. Historically, these monthly unlocks have barely moved XRP’s price since the market anticipates them. With XRP trading around $1.05 during the release, the market showed little reaction.

Current Price Movements and Technical Factors

By the time of reporting, XRP was trading at $1.08, gaining over 2% in the past day but down about 1% on the week. The token remains stable despite a lack of strong momentum and is consolidating within a support zone between $1.05 and $1.06 a level holding firm in recent weeks. A drop below this range could push XRP toward $1.02 or even the psychological $1.00 mark. Resistance lies near $1.09 by the 20-day EMA, with further barriers between $1.10 and $1.15.

Looking ahead, XRP’s price will likely be shaped more by Bitcoin’s performance and overall crypto market sentiment than by the predictable escrow releases. Investors should watch key levels and broader macroeconomic trends for clearer direction.
