June saw Reno casinos rake in $81.6 million, marking a 20.3% surge and their second-best monthly performance ever. This growth outpaced other Nevada gaming hubs, including the Las Vegas Strip.
Despite a 25.8% jump in convention attendance on the Strip, overall gaming revenue fell 1.4% to $754.7 million. The decline was largely driven by a 22.2% drop in baccarat wagers, which slid to $610.7 million.
Clark County’s total gaming revenue nudged down 0.7% to $1.15 billion, with the Strip losing ground while downtown Vegas and the Boulder Strip posted gains of 2.6% and 1.9% respectively. Slot machine earnings ticked up 1% to $424.4 million, helping offset losses in table games that dropped 4.3%.
Hotel room rates on the Strip also slipped, down 5.1% despite the boost in convention visitors, partly because visitor numbers overall fell slightly by 0.5% to 3.08 million. The World Cup had no noticeable effect on Vegas tourism, as the city didn’t host matches and officials saw no lift from fans making side trips.
Meanwhile, Washoe County, which includes Reno and Sparks, posted a 17.6% increase in gaming win to $107.6 million, contributing to a statewide rise of 0.8% to $1.34 billion. Higher hold percentages on table games suggested that premium players were spending less time on the Strip and perhaps focusing on other destinations.
