On July 23, Qedma, an Israeli startup specializing in quantum error mitigation, announced its QESEM software is now fully integrated with Quantinuum’s advanced trapped-ion quantum computers. This move aims to reduce errors that still plague quantum devices despite their impressive theoretical power.

Quantinuum’s Helios system reported a two-qubit gate fidelity of 99.921% by late 2025, meaning about 8 errors per 10,000 operations. While this level seems high, complex quantum algorithms require millions of such operations, amplifying the impact of these inaccuracies. QESEM’s approach involves re-engineering quantum circuits at the software level to suppress noise before execution, and it works independently of hardware type.

The year-long collaboration under Quantinuum’s Startup Partner Program started with proof-of-concept demonstrations in March 2026 on both Helios and H2 systems, validating that QESEM can improve the results even on high-fidelity machines. Qedma, founded in 2020 and backed by $30.7 million in funding, now offers QESEM also as a Qiskit Function on IBM’s quantum platform, extending its reach.

Executives from both companies highlighted how the integration tackles complex computational tasks more effectively, bringing practical quantum computing a step closer. The partnership shows the ongoing race to tame errors in quantum processors, which remains a key hurdle for the field.
