Plume Network just walked into a room with over 100 financial institutions. The blockchain focused on real-world assets joined the DTCC's Digital Assets Solutions Industry Working Group, and it brought something most others in that room don't have: actual SEC transfer agent registration.

That registration, which Plume secured in October 2025, is the difference between being a ledger and being the ledger. When a company tokenizes its shares on Plume, the blockchain doesn't just copy ownership records from somewhere else. It becomes the official record. Plume can legally manage shareholder data, handle compliance, and sit between a company and its investors without needing a bank or brokerage in the middle.

What the DTCC working group actually does

The DTCC clears most US securities trades. Back in March 2026, it spun up a dedicated digital assets division. The working group started in May with 50 firms and hit 100 members by July. These aren't casual observers. They're institutions designing how tokenized securities will actually work in practice, from custody rules to settlement finality to compliance reporting.

The timeline matters. In July, the DTCC completed live trades using tokenized Russell 1000 stocks and ETFs. Those trades happened because the SEC issued a No-Action Letter roughly seven months earlier, giving the green light. A broader commercial launch of the DTC tokenization service is set for October 2026.

Why this matters for the broader ecosystem

Plume's membership signals something concrete: the infrastructure for tokenized securities isn't hypothetical anymore. Other companies are already pushing tokenization into new markets, but the DTCC group represents the institutional backbone. When custody standards, settlement rules, and compliance workflows get locked in by 100-plus firms, the ecosystem doesn't just get faster. It gets legitimate.

The company has positioned its transfer agent status as a bridge, not a finish line. Plume's interoperability with DTCC networks is built in from the start. That means when the October launch happens, Plume's blockchain infrastructure is already compatible with the settlement pipes that move trillions of dollars daily.
