Pi Network’s native token, PI, lost more than 10% in value within a day, reversing gains made after its recent v25 protocol upgrade. Just days earlier, PI had surged 11%, but the momentum quickly faded as trading volume spiked by 35%, signaling increased selling activity specific to this token.

Market Trends and Technical Signals

While Bitcoin’s trading volume declined during the same period, PI saw heightened activity, pointing to coin-specific pressure rather than a broad market selloff. The token broke below a rising trendline traced from its all-time low at $0.07036, slipping to around $0.086, roughly 13% above that record bottom. Technical indicators added to the bearish sentiment: the MACD showed growing downward momentum, and the Relative Strength Index plummeted to 18, deep into oversold territory. A drop below $0.080 could push PI toward retesting its all-time low, although the oversold RSI hints at possible short-term buying interest.

Unlock Schedules and Profit-Taking Weigh on PI

Part of the selling pressure stems from investors cashing in on the 43% rally following the v25 upgrade, which lifted PI from its all-time low toward $0.10072. More significantly, over 775 million PI tokens are scheduled to unlock by December 2026. This flood of newly unlocked tokens will increase market supply considerably, potentially keeping downward pressure on prices.

While increased liquidity from token unlocks might foster smoother trading and reduce volatility, it does little to counterbalance persistent selling unless matched by fresh demand. If buyer interest fails to grow, PI’s price could revisit or even fall below previous lows. The coming months will test whether renewed enthusiasm can absorb the extra supply and offset profit-taking.
