Palantir Technologies stock jumped 7% Monday night after the data analytics firm reported $1.94 billion in quarterly revenue, crushing Wall Street's $1.81 billion estimate by $125 million. Adjusted earnings landed at $0.41 per share against expectations of roughly $0.35. The company also raised its full-year guidance on the back of accelerating growth and record deal activity.
Growth Hitting New Gears
Revenue climbed 93% year over year in the second quarter, up from an already-impressive 85% growth rate in Q1. The U.S. commercial division led the charge with $764 million in quarterly sales, a stunning 149% jump from the same period last year. Government contracts weren't far behind either, posting 90% growth to $809 million despite ongoing political scrutiny around some public-sector work.
Profitability moved in lockstep with that topline expansion. GAAP net income hit $1.06 billion, translating to a 55% net margin. Operating margins expanded to 62% on an adjusted basis. Palantir's Rule of 40 score, which blends growth and profitability metrics, reached 155% compared to the 40% threshold that typically signals healthy software company performance.
The Pipeline Just Got Much Deeper
Deal wins accelerated sharply. The company signed 220 contracts valued at $1 million or more during the quarter. Total contract value in the commercial business hit a record $2.13 billion, up 153% year over year. More telling still, remaining deal value in that same division ballooned to $6.24 billion, more than double the figure from a year ago.
That growing backlog matters because it suggests customers aren't just kicking tires. When contract value more than doubles, it signals that deals are getting bigger and that companies are committing to longer-term deployments. The deeper pipeline gives management confidence that current momentum extends well beyond this quarter as customers gradually activate and expand their implementations.
