Hong Kong’s retail crypto market just got a boost as OSL Group rolled out XRP trading to regular investors on its licensed platform. Until now, XRP was only accessible to professional investors through OSL, but the exchange removed that barrier on July 29. This makes OSL the first SFC-licensed venue in the city to offer XRP trading to everyday traders.
XRP Joins Hong Kong’s Retail Crypto Roster
The freshly launched retail XRP products include quick trades quoted in XRP/USD and OTC pairs for XRP/USD and XRP/HKD. Deposits and withdrawals happen directly via the XRP Ledger, enabling smoother fund flows. XRP now sits alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana as one of the few tokens cleared for retail trading under Hong Kong’s strict regulatory framework.
Regulatory Confidence and Market Impact
Adding XRP marks a notable shift in Hong Kong’s crypto scene. Ripple’s lengthy legal battles with US regulators over XRP’s status as a security have haunted the token’s global standing for years. By greenlighting XRP for retail investors, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission signals greater trust in its compliance and position. For local traders, this opens new avenues for portfolio diversification on a fully licensed platform with solid oversight.
OSL’s journey as a pioneer in the local crypto industry started in 2020 when it became the first exchange licensed for virtual asset trading. The company’s expansion to retail clients in 2023 and now adding XRP reflects a steady broadening of crypto choices in Hong Kong’s regulated space. This momentum aligns with a wider trend of growing retail crypto adoption, evident in the gradual increase of tokens allowed for everyday users.
