After a four-day absence, OKX has made its way back to South Korea’s Google Play Store. Android users can now download, install, and update the exchange’s app without problems. This follows a sudden removal on July 24 that left many wondering about the future of OKX’s accessibility in the country.

While OKX has resumed normal operations on the Play Store, Bybit remains blocked for South Korean users, continuing a shutdown that started on July 10. The ongoing restrictions are part of a broader crackdown by South Korean authorities targeting overseas crypto platforms that operate without proper local registration.

Google Play Restrictions and Crypto Regulation in South Korea

Back in July, multiple foreign cryptocurrency exchange apps vanished from the South Korean version of Google Play. At least 29 derivatives trading platforms faced similar blocks, appearing either completely missing from search results or flagged with unavailability notices. OKX was the first affected platform to reclaim its spot on the store’s listings.

The removal is tied to stricter enforcement of local laws aiming to regulate foreign crypto exchanges more tightly. Meanwhile, Binance and Bitget remained accessible on the platform, highlighting a selective approach in the crackdown. OKX’s return suggests some negotiations or compliance adjustments might have taken place behind the scenes.

South Korea’s tightening grip on crypto trading apps joins a string of recent developments in the market, including fluctuating Bitcoin prices and shifting investor sentiment. The environment remains volatile as regulators push for clearer frameworks and stricter controls.
