The listing of o1.exchange's token O on Upbit sparked a quick price surge, lifting O from around $0.57 to a peak of $0.85 within hours. The move came with a substantial boost in trading volume, which jumped nearly 30% to $74.8 million during the first day, reflecting strong market engagement.
Upbit added O trading pairs against KRW, Bitcoin, and Tether, expanding access to South Korea’s largest exchange user base. This broader market exposure allowed both retail and institutional investors to jump in immediately, with deposits and withdrawals enabled just two hours after the announcement, ensuring liquidity was in place ahead of trading.
Price Action Highlights Profit-Taking and Resistance Challenges
Despite the early surge, O’s price faced immediate pushback. The chart showed a long upper wick, indicating aggressive profit-taking as early buyers secured gains near the intraday high. This selling pressure pulled O back to about $0.65, stabilizing just above the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement level at $0.639.
The token has yet to recover above the critical $0.68-$0.69 resistance zone, an area defined by overlapping horizontal and Fibonacci resistance levels. Falling short of this barrier suggests that the initial buying enthusiasm may have been absorbed by sellers, capping the rally. Holding above $0.639 is key; a drop below would signal the rally is fading and increase the odds of a retracement to the $0.57 base.
Derivatives Market Signals Growing Caution Amid Price Stagnation
While spot trading showed high volume, derivatives traders exhibited more prudence. Open interest climbed nearly 29% to $23.79 million, confirming ongoing leveraged positions. However, funding rates turned sharply negative, a sign that short sellers have gained control despite the price holding near $0.64.
This cautious stance in derivatives shows the uncertainty about whether the listing-driven momentum can sustain itself. The market now watches if O can decisively break resistance to maintain bullish strength or if profit-taking and speculative fatigue will drag prices lower.
