Morpho is set to become the official onchain credit partner for HashKey's HSK Chain, marking its first foothold in Hong Kong. The DeFi lending protocol, which currently manages around $7.6 billion in total value locked, announced this milestone on X this Tuesday. This partnership allows Morpho to integrate fully with HSK Chain, a licensed platform operated by HashKey, one of Asia’s most regulated crypto groups.
Hong Kong’s regulatory framework for virtual asset trading is among the strictest globally, making this a strategic move for Morpho as it pushes into Asia's institutional market. Shan, who leads Morpho's growth in the Asia-Pacific region, emphasized that HashKey is their anchor partner in one of the world’s key financial hubs. He highlighted that this collaboration demonstrates that onchain credit infrastructure is mature enough to expand through licensed channels in APAC, combining permissionless DeFi protocols with solid compliance layers.
The partnership will focus on creating onchain credit products for both institutional and retail users, exploring CeDeFi and yield products backed by Bitcoin and real-world assets as collateral. Morpho’s infrastructure enables HashKey to implement KYC checks, wallet screening, and access controls in line with local regulations, without compromising the open nature of the credit engine. This model keeps the core lending protocol permissionless while placing compliance at the network’s edges.
