Morgan Stanley executives declare the traditional banking day is over. Markets no longer stop when bankers punch out at 5 p.m. Instead, tokenized assets and nonstop trading are driving finance into a new phase where money moves around the clock. This shift is more than just a buzzword for cryptocurrencies it’s a fundamental change to financial infrastructure.

Markets turning 24/7 with tokenized assets

Betsy Graseck, Morgan Stanley’s global head of banks and diversified finance research, emphasized that the shift away from batch processing and standard business hours is accelerating. She said tokenization is transforming how assets move, enabling real-time access and settlement rather than operating on fixed schedules. The technology fueling this revolution draws on blockchain innovations to mainstream traditional investments, not just crypto coins.

Cryptocurrencies have proven round-the-clock markets can succeed. Now exchanges, banks, and custodians are building systems that allow traditional assets to be traded and settled nonstop, eliminating delays previously accepted as normal. The industry is adapting to an always-on economy where investors expect instant access to their holdings no matter the hour.

Morgan Stanley’s push into digital assets reflects the shift

The bank is expanding digital asset offerings aggressively. Through E*TRADE, clients can now trade spot Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana. On the investment side, Morgan Stanley recently launched spot ETFs for Bitcoin and just added Ether and Solana ETFs. This aligns with growing investor demand for diverse access to tokenized products that blend crypto innovation with mainstream asset management.

Graseck underlined that this transformation is not about chasing cryptocurrency hype but about rebuilding financial plumbing for a world where "banker hours" are a relic. As the infrastructure evolves, Morgan Stanley expects its clients to benefit from quicker settlements and more continuous market access.
