MoonPay has expanded its U.S. payment options by integrating Discover cards, allowing eligible customers to buy and sell cryptocurrencies using one of the three major card networks in the country. This move complements MoonPay’s existing support for Visa and Mastercard, offering users greater flexibility and choice when transacting in crypto.
Broadening Payment Access for Crypto Buyers
With over 30 million customers across 180 countries, MoonPay processes payments for more than 500 wallets, exchanges, and applications. The addition of Discover cards strengthens MoonPay’s strategy to bridge traditional finance and cryptocurrencies through enhanced payment methods. However, transactions still depend on the individual approval policies of card issuers, meaning acceptance may vary by user.
Discover Joins a Growing List of Payment Methods
Discover is now part of a wide range of payment options available on MoonPay, which include Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, bank transfers, and various local payment methods. Richard Harrison, MoonPay’s Vice President of Banking and Payments Partnership, noted that each new payment method reduces obstacles that might prevent users from completing purchases. Claudia Schaefer from Discover Global Network highlighted that expanding payment choices is key to meeting consumer demand.
This integration is notable considering Discover’s more cautious approach to cryptocurrencies compared to Visa and Mastercard, which have actively developed crypto programs and partnerships over the years. The move signals a gradual broadening of crypto-friendly payment networks, making it easier for U.S. clients to enter the digital asset market.
