Mirae Asset has completed its acquisition of a 97.15% stake in South Korea’s cryptocurrency exchange Korbit and rebranded it as Digital X. This shift positions the platform at the core of Mirae Asset’s strategy to bridge traditional finance with digital assets, focusing on tokenization of real-world assets, security tokens, stablecoins, and hybrid investment products.
Strategic Shift and Expansion Plans
Park Hyeon-joo, founder and Global Strategy Officer of Mirae Asset Group, announced the move internally on July 23, emphasizing the rebranding as more than just a name change. Digital X is designed to represent the fusion of various value forms, creating new opportunities by integrating conventional financial services with emerging digital asset markets. The exchange will continue existing Korbit services while expanding its product offerings to include tokenization projects and innovative digital investment vehicles.
Compliance and Regulatory Focus
Alongside the business growth, Mirae Asset is prioritizing solid compliance and customer protection. Park instructed the team to uphold strict anti-money laundering, know-your-customer processes, and fraud prevention measures. This focus aligns with South Korea’s evolving regulatory environment, including the Virtual Asset User Protection Act and forthcoming security token framework. Digital X aims to set a standard by adhering closely to these regulations and becoming a model for responsible digital asset operations in the country.
Park also highlighted that customer wealth creation remains the guiding principle for all product launches, cautioning against introducing offerings that lack tangible value. Backed by Mirae Asset’s three decades of financial experience, Digital X is positioned to navigate the competitive crypto landscape with a strong governance foundation and a clear vision for integrating digital assets into mainstream finance.
