Mirae Asset has secured a 97.15% stake in Korbit, South Korea's oldest crypto exchange, and is set to rebrand it as Digital X. This move is part of a larger plan to create an innovative platform that merges real-world assets, stablecoins, and digital tokens under one roof.
Rather than challenging market leaders like Upbit and Bithumb head-on, Mirae is focusing on building a unique ecosystem that offers investor education, thorough research, and institutional-grade compliance. Korbit currently accounts for less than 1% of the domestic crypto market, so Mirae’s strategy revolves around sustainable growth and integration rather than rapid market share grabs.
The new Digital X platform aims to function beyond a typical exchange, acting as an infrastructure layer that connects various asset classes and investment tools. Mirae's vision includes blending global investment expertise with digital asset technologies to support both Korean and international markets.
By emphasizing education and compliance, Mirae hopes to foster a more informed investor base and create a foundation for long-term industry health. This approach contrasts sharply with traditional exchange competition focused purely on trading volume.
