Piper Sandler has kept its 'Overweight' rating on Microsoft shares, setting a price target of $540, roughly 40% above the current $394 trading level. This confidence comes just before Microsoft's fiscal Q4 earnings report scheduled for July 29, a key moment for investors eager to hear updates on Azure growth, AI monetization, and adoption of Copilot.
Analyst Billy Fitzsimmons underscored the firm's positive outlook after Microsoft launched AI-focused cybersecurity tools, including the MAI-Cyber-1-Flash model and Project Perception. The new security model scored 96% on the CyberGym benchmark and promises reduced operating costs compared to existing security systems. Fitzsimmons sees these innovations strengthening Microsoft’s foothold in the fast-growing AI security market, which should support long-term profit margins.
Microsoft’s position as the largest security vendor globally also bodes well as enterprises increasingly incorporate AI-driven security solutions. Across Wall Street, sentiment remains optimistic. Data from TipRanks shows a 'Strong Buy' consensus with an average target of $554 and top estimates reaching $680. Despite worries around AI spending and margin pressures, most analysts view Microsoft as a key winner amid the enterprise AI adoption wave.
Shares have bounced about 7% in the past month after a sharp earlier dip, recovering from a June low near $349 but still trailing behind a 52-week high around $555. The rebound reflects improving investor sentiment heading into Microsoft’s earnings disclosure.
