"About 98% of my portfolio is in altcoins right now," analyst Michael van de Poppe said in his latest YouTube video, a line that caught attention precisely because it came after one of the roughest stretches for alternative coins in recent memory. While Bitcoin was breaking all-time highs through much of 2025, most altcoins sat in the dust, and retail investors who had been waiting for a rotation never got the signal they wanted. Van de Poppe thinks that signal is finally arriving.

His approach is not simply to buy and hold. He described a rotation strategy: moving between coins, trading market swings actively, and trimming positions during rallies. At the same time, he said he intends to gradually build up his Bitcoin, Ethereum, and cash allocations to reduce overall exposure as the cycle matures. The clearest conviction play in his current book is Avalanche. He recently put in $3,000 and is watching the $7 level closely. If AVAX reclaims that price and prints an upward divergence on the chart, he plans to scale up to somewhere between $7,000 and $10,000 in total. His reasoning is straightforward: growing real-world asset activity on the Avalanche network makes the token's current valuation look cheap relative to what's being built on top of it.

NEAR is the second name on his list. The token already moved from around $1.20 to $3.50 in a recent leg, and van de Poppe said he sold part of his position into that strength. He is now waiting for a pullback to get more aggressive again. Rounding out the disclosed positions: Wormhole sits at roughly 17% of his portfolio, EigenLayer at about 11%, and he flagged AAVE as a separate signal worth watching. After spending close to a year trading below its 21-day and 50-day moving averages, AAVE has broken above both, a crossover the analyst reads as a potential entry into a new bull phase for the token.

Van de Poppe was careful to frame all of this as his own market read, not a blueprint for anyone else. The altcoin cycle has fooled enough people over the past 18 months that even a seasoned trader telegraphing his moves comes with an implicit caveat: timing a rotation is harder than calling it.
